Dining room buying guide

How to choose the right dining table

Start with the room, not the table. Leave roughly 36″ between the table edge and walls or furniture so chairs can slide out, and plan about 24″ of table edge per person. Round tables keep conversation easy in square rooms; rectangles and extension tables flex for holidays.

  • 36″clearance around the table
  • 24″of table edge per diner
  • 10–12″from seat to tabletop

Common questions

What size dining table do I need for my room?

Measure the room and subtract about 36″ on every side for chairs to slide out and people to walk behind them. Plan roughly 24″ of table edge per person. Bring your measurements to any showroom and a designer will help you size it.

Can I see these dining pieces in a showroom?

Yes. Anything marked On display is on the floor in one of our showrooms in Tacoma, Bellevue or Olympia. Use the Availability filter to see only pieces you can sit at before you buy.

What does "Special order" mean, and how long does it take?

Special order pieces are built for you in the finish and fabric you choose. Lead times vary by maker; our team will give you an estimate for the exact piece before you order.

Do you deliver and set up dining furniture?

Yes. Our white glove team delivers, assembles and places your furniture, then takes the packaging with them.

Can I mix chairs from different collections?

Absolutely. Keep seat heights within an inch or two of each other and leave 10–12″ between the seat and the tabletop. Our designers are happy to help you pair pieces.
