Per square foot, nothing in the bedroom works harder than a nightstand. It holds the lamp, the book, the charger and the glass of water, all within arm's reach of a pillow. Seldens carries them from Stickley, Hooker Furniture, Lexington, Whittier Wood and our own line, most in solid wood with metal hardware.
Measure From the Top of the Mattress, Not the Floor
This is the mistake we correct most often. A nightstand should land close to the height of your mattress top, ideally within a couple of inches either way. Too low and you are groping downward for the lamp switch in the dark. Too high and it looms over the pillow. Bed height varies a lot once you add a foundation and a thick mattress, so measure the bed you actually own rather than the frame in a catalog. Width matters less, though a tight bedroom is a good argument for the smaller version of a design.
One Drawer, Two Drawers or an Open Shelf
Two drawers hide more, which suits anyone whose bedside collects clutter. A single drawer over an open shelf keeps books visible and gives a charging cable somewhere to disappear. Depth is the quiet spec: a shallow table looks elegant and then loses a fight with a lamp base. The pair does not have to match either. If one side of the bed sits against a wall or a door swing, a smaller unit on that side is the more practical answer.
Shop Nightstands in Tacoma, Bellevue and Olympia
Bring the height of your mattress top and we will find the tables that suit it. Our Tacoma, Bellevue and Olympia showrooms keep nightstands staged beside the beds and dressers they were designed with, so scale is easy to judge. Browse new arrivals or come see them in person.
