Wood Buffets & Sideboards

A sideboard gives the dining room a serving surface and a home for linens, platters and the good dishes, and it works just as well in a living room or entry. We carry wood buffets and sideboards in walnut, oak and warm brown tones, with door, drawer and glass-front layouts, many in the 61–80 inch range. Buying guide

Doors, drawers or both?

Size it to the wall and table. A sideboard looks best at about two-thirds the width of the wall behind it and no longer than the dining table. Most here measure 61–80 inches, and the Width filter narrows the list.

Leave room behind the chairs. Plan about 36 inches between the sideboard and the table edge so seated guests can push back and someone can still pass.

Match the storage to your things. Drawers keep flatware and linens sorted. Doors and shelves hold tall serving pieces and stacks of plates. Glass doors put pottery and stemware on display, and the Cabinet Type filter finds display and bar styles.

Care for the wood. Use trivets under hot dishes and coasters under glasses. Keep the piece out of strong direct sun, which can fade wood, and dust with a cloth that's barely damp.

Seeing is believing. Open the doors and drawers in a showroom, or book a free design consultation and we will help you plan the dining wall.

Common questions

Can I return a sideboard?

In-stock sideboards can be returned in their original condition within 14 days. Delivery charges aren't refundable. Special and custom orders can be cancelled within 72 hours of ordering, and clearance pieces are final sale.

How long does a special-order sideboard take?

Lead times vary by maker, and each product page shows its own estimate. In-stock sideboards are ready much sooner, for delivery or free pickup.

Can I see these sideboards in person?

Yes. Anything marked On display is on the floor in one of our showrooms in Tacoma, Bellevue or Olympia, open Monday–Saturday 10–6 and Sunday 11–5. Call ahead if you want to make sure a specific piece is at your nearest showroom.

What's the difference between a buffet and a sideboard?

The names are often used interchangeably. Sideboards traditionally stand on taller legs, while buffets tend to sit lower and closer to the floor, but either works as a serving and storage piece.

What height should a sideboard be?

Most sideboards stand around 30–36 inches tall, close to counter height, which makes serving comfortable. Hang art or a mirror about 6–10 inches above the top so the two feel connected.
