You will log more hours in a desk chair than on any sofa you ever buy. Sixteen office chairs sit in this collection, from Hooker Furniture, BDI, Ekornes, Whittier Wood and Stickley, split between swivel tilt executive chairs and lighter desk chairs.
Swivel Tilt or a Fixed Desk Chair
Ten of these swivel and tilt, four are straight desk chairs. If you work full days at home, take the swivel. Tilt tension lets you shift position through the afternoon, and casters spare your floor from being dragged across twenty times a day. If the chair mostly holds mail and a laptop for an hour each evening, a wood frame chair looks better in the room and costs less.
Getting Chair Height and Desk Height to Agree
Most desks arrive at a standard height, so the chair does the adjusting. Sit down, rest your forearms flat on the top, and your elbows should land near ninety degrees with both feet on the floor. Arms are the other trap. If they do not clear the desk apron you end up perched too far back, which no amount of cushion fixes.
